My Book Releases Today
Hello friends,
Today is the day! My book, “Emerging From the Rubble” has emerged from the rubble beneath which it was written and is soaring into the universe to (hopefully) help people feel less alone in their loss and grief, in their broken dreams and broken relationships and broken hearts and unmet expectations.
Me?
I wrote it from beneath the rubble of my own loss and even though the book is out making its way through the universe … I’m still here - buried, suffocating, (at times) barely breathing, in a puddle of my own tears.
Covered in dust.
Covered in ash.
Filled with all sorts of questions and doubts and fears.
… This is all very cryptic language, I know.
(^^listen to today’s podcast episode where I share a bit about the book and direction of the podcast for the remainder of 2023.)
To spell it out, the book takes the reader through 30 stories from Matthew’s Gospel and wonders about those stories through the lens of Matthew’s first century readers who were living in the wake of Rome’s destruction of their city and their Temple - the very center of the Jewish universe.
The temple was destroyed.
The city was in ruins.
The Temple leaders were massacred.
… Nothing was left, Judaism was literally hanging by a thread.
Eventually, though, these brave people picked up whatever was left and moved North to the city of Antioch where they (in essence) began again.
They brushed off the dust.
They wiped the tears from their eyes.
They took a deep breath.
They gathered up some courage.
AND.
They moved forward.
And so the book looks at the stories of Matthew’s Gospel through the lens of this massive, earth-shattering, universe-imploding loss and wonders why Matthew might have written these stories to these people and how they might have understood or received the stories given their very unique (and horrifying) first century circumstances.
The book, then, encourages you (the reader) to get in touch with your own demolished Temples, the places in your universe that have imploded via …
Divorce.
Broken relationships.
Broken dreams.
A positive test result from the doctor.
The death of a loved one.
… And read the stories of Matthew’s Gospel through THAT lens and from beneath THAT rubble, wondering how the stories might encourage you or challenge you or help you walk forward into your own Antioch in the power and strength of Jesus The Christ.
The book doesn’t aim to solve your problems or resolve your grief or even tell you what to do next. Instead, it’s only goal is to be a companion for you or a friend - a 267 page friend whose message is to remind you that you aren’t alone in the midst of your misery and that it’s OK to sit beneath the rubble for as long as you need to.
I wrote the book over the course my dad’s 15-month battle with stage 4 colon cancer and finished it shortly after he passed away in March. And I’m releasing it on Father’s Day as my gift to him - as a thank you for all that he taught me, the ways in which he helped me believe in myself, as an explanation point on his life, as a message in a bottle thrown out into the ocean of grief that makes its way through our world … a message that I hope and pray and trust will land into the hands of the people who need it the most.
And if the book happens to land in your hands or come across your computer/tablet screen … I believe it’s because my dad (in some magically mysterious way) had something to do with getting it to you.
You can purchase a copy on Amazon (paperback or Kindle) OR you can go to whatifproject.net/books and fill out the form at the bottom of the page if you’d like to receive a signed copy. I’ll be in touch within 24 hours of getting the message to get your address, let you know how you can send money, and to let you know when to expect your book to arrive.
OH.
And if you can’t afford a copy? Use that same message box on the website and let me know. I’ll send you a copy free of charge, no questions asked. I don’t want money to the be the reason why this book doesn’t end up in your hands or in the hands of someone you love.
That said, are you picking up a copy? If so, please leave a review for it on Amazon, share a pic of the book to your social media pages, and drop me an email at whatifproject.net@gmail.com to let me know what you think of it.
Thanks for your love, for your encouragement, and for being my friends.
Much love,
Glenn
